11/A — ABOVE THE BENCH
Plan the laundry around how the washing actually moves
Most laundry frustration comes down to order. Dirty clothes have nowhere to land, the dryer door hits the tub, or the bench is too short to fold on. Sorting the layout first also fixes where the waste, water and power points need to go before any wall is closed up. Our Bathroom Design service plans laundries the same way.

Layout and appliance spaces
Putting the machines side by side under a bench gives you one long folding surface. Stacking the washer and dryer frees up wall length in a narrow room. Either way, the cavity sizes, tap and waste positions and any venting are settled at the design stage, not on the day the machines arrive.

Bench, cabinetry and storage
Benchtops, overhead cupboards, tall broom storage and somewhere to hang clothes all compete for the same walls. We look at moisture-resistant cabinet materials near the tub, edges that suit wet hands, and how high the overheads can go without blocking a window or the light.

Tubs and tapware
A tub in its own cabinet is simple and easy to replace later. An inset or under-mount sink in the benchtop looks built-in and is easy to wipe down. Each option needs different plumbing, so the tub is chosen at the same time as the cabinetry drawings.

11/B — UNDER THE FLOOR
Floor tiling and waterproofing in a laundry
A laundry is a wet area, so we treat the floor as one. The old cabinetry and floor come out, the plumbing goes in, and the surface is prepared. A continuous membrane then goes across the floor and into the wall junctions. We take extra care around the floor waste and where the tub and machines will sit. The membrane cures before any tile adhesive goes down.
Floor tiles are picked for grip underfoot as well as looks. They are bedded, laid to a planned set-out and grouted. If there is a floor waste, the floor is sloped so water runs to it and not towards the doorway.

Does a laundry need waterproofing like a bathroom?
Yes. A laundry is a wet area, so the floor and its junctions are waterproofed before tiling. How far the membrane goes depends on the room and its fixtures, and that is confirmed during assessment and design.
Can a laundry be renovated at the same time as a bathroom?

Can the washing machine and tub be moved?
Usually, as long as the waste and water can be run to the new spot. The assessment checks what is under the floor and inside the walls before the layout is locked in.
